What is the correct image size? Still confused!
I know a lot has been said about this, and I wonder if it has been resolved. Could you clear up the confusion about the maximum image size for posting?
In the Assignments section we have this statement:
5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (740px on the longest side).
But in the "Life" Competition Section we have this statement:
Enter by posting your images below - 700px wide max please (Wider will be gracefully deleted)
Assuming that we all reference back to Flickr so the DPS web doesn't have to hold all the large files, I can save into Flickr at any size that DPS recommends, but within DPS there seems to be conflict, as to whether it is "WIDE" or "THE LONGEST SIDE".
Width affects page formating, so there should be a maximum width set for "portrait" and/or "landscape" images and it might not be the same. It seems that 740px is about right to stay within the current graphics that I can see. But what about length? In portraits, the longer the image the more severe affect on bandwidth loading and frequency of page breaks.
So, has this been resolved yet (and I've missed it in the forum)? I agree it should be linked to Flickr's standard sizes, but could you guys resolve it? This is not a whinge, by the way, I love all the work you guys do, but as managers you need to set the rules we can all follow. Cropping is one of the most important processes and changing size all the time is time consuming. I'll be happy with whatever you choose.
