I live in a small town in Thailand and at first I just took a step outside my door and tried to see something interesting, and for the first couple of days I got that. But the surroundings didn't change and I wasn't showing people what my life was really like and what I saw everyday. I told myself that I needed to really show the town and that meant the people. I'm a teacher in the town and one of the only white woman and to be carrying a big camera around is a little daunting! But I just did it and the pictures I've gotten have been my favorites since I've been here. The pictures I've taken in my town mean more to me than the shots I get at the beautiful beaches of Thailand because they show my real life, they show what I see everyday!
It took me a little bit to get out of this habit of just taking a step out of my door and shooting as quickly as I could and running back into my house. Now the residents on my street are comfortable with me and my camera and it makes it so much easier to get the shots I want!!
