Default movement ... tripod!

hello fellows,

today I bought my first tripod (finally, horray!!) and tried to experiment with it a little ... I set the cam in a dark area to trick it in adjusting to longer shutter speed for my plan to work, then I played the rule because it's the first time for me to be the subject of my own image (I must say I love my tripod for letting me to do that) ... Anyway, I want to know if there are any suggestions you have for me to improve in this kind of photography, and how to make an image like this become better than that.

EDIT: I forgot to say that my Sony dsc-t100 doesn't let me control shutter speed and aperture manually, so I also would appreciate general tips for how to better trick it in F stop and shutter speed changes.
