There's a really fun (and somewhat terrifying) technique of getting some really sweet abstract pictures... camera-tossing. I've long thought about it, but it was Photojojo's
camera-tossing article that finally got me to try it out. This technique is most comfortably employed with an older point-and-shoot, you can get some really wild results... check out the
flickr group and try it out for yourself!
My old P&S has a shutter delay, so I just hit the button and throw the camera in the air. On other cameras, you can set a timer so that it goes off while the camera's in the air.
And don't think for a minute that I'm liable for any damage you may do to your camera! Use one that you don't mind getting busted! I caught mine pretty consistently, but stopped for the evening when it crashed to the floor and the memory card popped out. :)
