This was a lovely photo without much room for improvement, so I went with something abstract.
In Paint Shop Pro: - Cropped the image slightly.
- Duplicated the original image and applied noise reduction.
- Applied the High Pass edge effect, then adjusted brightness/contrast.
- Duplicated the layer and applied the Find All edge effect, adjusted brightness contrast, and set the new layer to Multiply.
- Added two duplicate layers of the original image, one set to Overlay, the other to Soft Light.
- Adjusted layer visibilities until I was happy with the result.
- Merged the layers and applied some additional noise reduction.
