AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G ?

What is good/bad about it, compared to the Sigma lense suggested by Saralonde (btw, ty for the thread...)? the price I can get it for is around $170.

(I tried the search function - didn't find results, sorry if I missed something)
Can't speak to the Sigma. I have the Nikkor to which you refer. It's soft wide open and when stopped down and at the far end (300mm) of its focal length. I haven't noticed significant vignetting at either end of the lens. It stinks in low light, though, so If you need a telephoto to use in low light, don't use this lens. If you can put it on a tripod, it might work in low light situations, but you'll need a sturdy head on the tripod because it isn't a lightweight lens.

I love the lens, to be sure. I've taken some great photos with it. I just understand its limitations. I sure didn't pay $170 (US) for it, though...
