I'm not an expert at all with wide angle lenses, but being a skateboarder i do know that skateboarders use fisheye lenses (which are very ultra wide angle) in order to capture both the trick and the skateboarder himself (or herself). Maybe try experimenting the wide angle lens on a shot that involves capturing a great deal of space?
