Most of that I can agree with...You need the right equipment, but you also need the technical skills. 95% of what I shoot is sports. I need to turn over as many images as possible in the span of the event, typically baseball and softball, to print proofs and sell prints on-site. You don't have the time to be "technically" perfect all the time. However, you should know the technicals prior to the event. I shoot mine almost exclusively aperature priority as I cannot control the backgrounds, it also makes the subject stand out almost as if in 3-D. I also shoot loose so I can insure I don't loose appendages... THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN KNOW AS A SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHER IS "THE SPORT". If you don't have a clue what is going to happen next you will more than likely miss the "good" shot.
