HI everyone, thanks for your replies - it has been interesting for me to read them, and where other people are at. This has been a great discussion. At the end of the day I think it really depends on the person what they take, their work, and what their aims are for their photography - whether just an occasional shooter or a professional. I can't see myself always carrying my camera everywhere.....but you never know. I want to improve, and to do this I know means practice, practice. So taking a camera every day makes sense - to seize the opportunity when it presents itself. I think my PowerShot will be the best option for me as it is a very versatile camera, with a pro level lens, and takes great super macro as well as having a pretty good zoom. It is a great all-round traveller's camera if you don't want to lug a lot of gear.

I agree it can be a pain when people always expect you to be the one taking photos - for myself I would rather enjoy, for instance, present opening at Christmas and birthdays, and enjoy the moment, rather than taking photos.

thanks everyone. Happy snapping!
