If your monitor is properly calibrated the prints should look just like they do on your screen. They won't look exactly the same given the differences between backlit displays and ink on paper but you shouldn't notice any significant differences. The only problem I've had with mpix, and it's something I've heard from others, is that prints have come back darker than expected. I like my LCDs to be bright, so it's just a matter of adjusting the brightness properly when preparing images before uploading.

The only other thing you may encounter is aspect ratios. Most digital cameras create images with a 4x3 aspect ratio. If you print a 5x7 or 8x10 you'll have to crop the image before printing, but you'll have the option of customizing the crop before you order.

I'm not sure about the calibration kit, but if it's expensive, I'd just order a few test prints to see how they compare to what you see on your monitor.
