Default Antique Brass Lock

This picture was taken at Watkins Woolen Mill State Historical Site located in Lawson, Mo. The antique brass lock was attached to the door of the icehouse on the grounds. I think the photo is striking with the sunlight filtering across the lock. My question to you is...Do you think the background is too dark? What could I have done or can do to make the photograph pop?

Camera: Nikon D60
Exposure: 0.017 sec (1/60)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 44 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: -1/3 EV
Flash: No Flash

Thank you in advance!
