You could try popping just a little bit of fill-flash to fix the shadow issue next time. It's not that big of an issue, especially with the nice rim light you have going here. The negative space on the left isn't doing anything for me, so I'd crop in from that side a little bit.

Thank you for taking the time to look at and respond to my post. Looking at the image again after reading your post I can see what you mean about the left taking up space that isn't doing much for the composition. As I didn't have my flash with me and I dread using the pop up flash on the camera, I didn't have the ability to add a fill flash, I could take it back to photoshop and see if I can do something about lightening the shadow in camera raw processing. I will revisit this. Thanks for your input I appreciate all the advice and help I can get.
