I agree that Light, Science & Magic is a great book, and well worth the read.
I bought Master Lighting Guide for Portrait Photography by Christopher Grey. It shows lighting diagrams, and the results.
It even has some sections where he starts out with one light, then shows the difference by adding another light or reflector.
I've found it very helpful.
