I'm currently teaching a class which is all about real, interesting math. We started by talking about different ideas of "fairness" (such as, ways to vote or to split up an inheritance). After that we worked with credit cards, home loans, etc. for a while, and right now we're analyzing gambling games. It's a lot of fun, and no calculus in sight.

Anyway, I developed a phobia anything maths orientated and avoided it at all costs throughout my life until I started working at this school I am now.

I had to do a maths test I got 97% right!! Just goes to prove that your beliefs aren't always the reality!!
Yay!! Congratulations. Math really can be fun. I think that the biggest misconception is that math is just a series of rules to follow. My work is really to invent new mathematical ideas -- set down some new rules, follow their consequences, and see what happens. It's actually quite a lot of fun.
