Something from about ten years ago? Even the camera I bought back in early 2001 (a Fujifilm Finepix 1300, I think) could shoot up to 1280x960. I don't recall if it could go down to 640x480 but manufacturers have been pushing resolution up not down ever since.

What kind of work are you doing? Even for something like web-based work (which I do a lot of) it is better to have larger images that you can resize or crop down than smaller, very low-res ones. Likewise, a 640x480 image has a tiny file size, when compared to broadband networks and memory sticks / DVDs for data transfer rather than floppy disks.

ps. I agree with Bryan that a batch converter may well be the answer... in which case you'd best tell us about the operating system you use as well.
