D50 and D70 are definitely worth thinking about if you want total control of ambient lighting in flash photography-Off camera flash can be synched up to 1/4000 sec for D50; and up to 1/8000 sec for D70, as these have the same electro mechanical shutter as the D40(which can also sync up to 1/4000 sec).As far as I know, no other Nikon or other brand of camera can do this, although some flashguns have the capability to speed up.
