When you decide to move up to a DSLR you don't just look at the camera, you also need to look at the entire system to see if it will meet your needs. Take a look at the range of lenses available, take a look at the flash/Speedlites, take a look at all the other accessories that are available.
Sony uses a proprietary hot shoe system so you might want to look into that and see if you can deal with it or not.
