Default Self portrait with color shift

This is a self portrait that I played with in Photoshop. I wanted my face to reflect the colors generated in the sphere to add a more mystical look to the shot. Except for the color shift and a crop this is SOOC. I cropped in ACR then opened the shot in PS. I created copy of the background layer and selected the light sphere, then used the inverse function to highlight all but the sphere. Then with a color balance adjustment layer I shifted the colors until my face appeared in the hue you see.

I shot the whole scene with the external flash (Canon 580EX II) set to second shutter. Also had a snoot on the flash to focus all the light onto my face (I didn't want the flash reflecting off the light sphere). The flash was set to manual and fired at 1/16th power. I didn't want my face to be too bright since I primarily wanted attention focused on the ball.

Looking for critique on the idea and if this has the impact I intended.

Here is the EXIF:

Camera: Canon EOS 40D
Exposure: 2.5
Aperture: f/16.0
Focal Length: 60 mm
Exposure: 0.00
ISO Speed: 400

AHHHH! What do I see?
