Another possible solution is some of the scrapbooking software. ArcSoft (who I think that PhotoStudio is by) has a program called
Collage Creator (that's from 2003). But there's a 15 day trial of it on their website. They have since updated the program to
Scrapbook Creator, but it might be a useful starting place, especially since you'd already be familiar with the type of software they do.
