I do like your B&W conversion. Looks great.
I hope I'm not too much of a buzz kill, but my 2 main issues with this photo are: (1) focus - I'd like to see at least the dog's eyes in sharp focus. Here, it seem that just the nose is in sharp focus; and (2) the red/pink area in the upper left hand corner is a bit of a distraction to me. Could that area be desaturated?
DPS is a great place. Nice folks and a good place to learn and have fun.
