I too have an on-board flash and I use it only when it's absolutely necessary. Unlike many p&s cameras, I can tweak my flash settings quite a bit, but sometimes I just think, "yuck!"...light from a flash can be so harsh! Perhaps I'm just not good at figuring out the best settings and surely there are MUCH better flashes out there...but all that said and done, give me some beautiful natural light anyday!
