Hi, I'm Kurt. Got here through the
DPS Twitter account, in an effort to learn more about composition and night photography. I live in the Seattle area, and have been carrying a camera for about 33 years. If I were to describe my style, it might be called "Advanced Point N Shoot." I love taking pictures of my kids and their antics. There's a lot to learn out there, even for a guy who's had a camera in his hand since before Charlie's Angels. In terms of "artistic" photography, urban backdrops are my thing: cities, trains, tracks, buildings, decaying cars, general grit. I also love time exposure. Seattle is blessed with lots of places to shoot, but really crummy lighting because of the clouds and rain. The Space Needle remains as one of the most photographed icons in the region. Sadly, to date, all my shots of the Space Needle suck...
My kit is simple: Tripod, one digital camera, two 35mm SLRs, a small Digital Video, Holga 120N, and disposable cameras. A $1500 lens for a D50 would be worth more than all my equipment put together. I'm always looking for ways to improve what I do (with the money that I have), and have picked up a lot of great tips from pros over the years. These days I'm taking more shots with my Canon AE-1 and Holga 120N, because my good digital camera broke. My backups include my
camera phone and an Olympus D360L I picked up for $20 to fill the gap until I have the cash to buy a new digital. While I may not have much to contribute to this forum as a photographer, I'm here to learn more about photography from people with that kind of experience. Glad to be here. Thanks.
