Ok, let's see.
I'm Mel and I've seen people on my father's side of the family taking pictures for as long as I can remember.
Grandma was born in '21 and has her youth pretty well-documented, and I guess it was passed on, from spending so much time going through her carefully crafted albums.

My dad used a Praktica for more than 25 years, then got himself a Canon APS point'n'shoot, then in '03 I guess a Nikon N65.
By then we already had our first digital camera, a Sony DSC-P52, and in '05 I was really interested in a dSLR, but we couldn't afford one.
I had been "taking pictures" (casually, just for the sake of the "moment") for over 10 years, and so I got a Sony DSC-H1, which is still my faithful companion.

But in August '08, we were finally able to get our hands on a Nikon D200. It soon became clear to us that this whole "digital photography" thing was much more difficult than we had thought (so many buttons compared to the N65!) and even though it's been almost a year, me and the camera spent half of it apart, since I moved out. Now I just got it back, and will see if I can take it out for a spin soon. Of all the photography-related forums I've come around, I honestly think the DPS will be the most helpful!

Sorry for the verbose intro...
