HDR is the process where one takes several captures of the same thing some under exposed and some overexposed and possible one normally exposed. HDR software then combines these captures and compresses the images into a normal range that look like it has a wider range.

No, actually that helped quite a bit. I tried googling it, but all explanations were really long, and I quickly lost interest trying to figure it out. What kind of programs are HDR software?
