Hey mws547! If you weren't in California, I'd swear we were shooting from the same place! I, however, was in Texas at Lake Grapevine. It was my first time shooting fireworks in manual on my Nikon D40, and I am just so so so so happy with the results. My only regret is that I had my 15-55mm lens on the camera -- I think something a little tighter (my 55-200mm) would have been terribly useful, but it was dark and I didn't want to fumble around with expensive toys while sitting on the beach with no flashlight.

Here's my favorite:

FIREWORKS&FATHERSDAY-WEB-9504

Exposure Time = 41 second
ISO Speed Ratings = 200
Aperture = F16
Focal Length = 550/10 mm = 55 mm

The camera was on a tripod, and I was using an open shutter with a remote. There are a few more more on my blog.

PS: I'm here because of the Tweet, too. This will be the first photo I've posted on the DPS forums. Wheeee!
