Larger aperture opening (smaller "f/" number), if available on your lens, will decrease DOF ("Depth of Focus" or "Depth of Field" for us oldtimers) and blur the background more. If not possible with your camera, then go to a longer focal length. You'll lose the wide-angle distortion effect, but it will decrease your DOF and make the background more out of focus.
