Well, so would a milk jug over the flash be, but if it works patent the ugly thing! I use an semi-opaque plastic lid in front of my pop up flash on my P&S. Some people think I'm weird, but it just works! (Free, can find anywhere, don't care if I loose it, fits in my pocket).
