Somebody mentioned GIMP on here: For the money (free), it's tough to beat. It gets compared to Photoshop quite a bit, and understandably so, but it's not a PS clone. It's its own app.

try to run Ubuntu as my primary system, but as a designer with more than 5 years invested in Photoshop I just can't make the switch to Gimp. I give it a try every now and then as I much prefer using a Linux OS over Windows, but I can't afford the extra time everything takes in Gimp.
If only Adobe would release on Linux! Then I would never have to look at another Windows error screen again!!!
mainak_ch - you're obviously a bit of a geek! K-Lite is pretty much my first download when building Windows machines. If not K-Lite the 7zip. Both sensational packages.
