Im lost on the part of importing images into LR. Do i need place them into a folder on the C drive first. or can i import them straight from the sd card.??
When you import directly from the SD card there is an option to create a folder on your hard drive - in fact you can even make a second copy to an external drive at the same time as a backup.

I create a folder for each year i.e. 2009 & then preface the sub-folder 0901aaaaaaa 0902aaaaaaa this means that I find images quickly both in LR2 & the OS. I have some std folders each month - 0903Out&About, 0903Macro, 0903workevents & then create specific folders for a larger shoot - 0903Jack90th, 0904PB70th.

I also use the facility to change the filename on import - changing imgxxxxx to 40Dxxxxx or A6Cxxxxxx depending on the camera this ensures unique filenames.
