If you read the documentation (which is lacking like all GPL licensed software) there is a little comment regarding GEGL, quote "a tentative integration of GEGL", it is still in Beta or Alpha.

Also, Vista does have problems with the Gimp, but you won't find that out on the site. Normaly if you have issues you really have to go to a Gimp forum or search the net.

This is a fairly standard comment. When the Gimp first released, although it was not powerful or standardized it was marketed at the photography community. Since then it has become a graphics manipulation package which has removed itself from photography into the world of comic books, and its features are becoming more and more confusing. And this will continue as those that work on development try to move the product further away from Photoshop.

Sad because it is quite a good product.
