I keep coming across this one suction mount: PanaVise 809. Costs around $20 after shipping, and it seems to be sturdy enough to use on metal, as well. YouTube has a couple of clips that show it being used on the driver's door, as well as on a motorcycle for example.

Granted, they're using compact cameras at a fifth of the weight of a DSLR, but if you hook the camera strap around the mirror or get it stuck in the door, it should be safe even if the suction wouldn't hold.

Am I getting something wrong here? Otherwise I'm pulling the trigger on this.
