Yes - C=continuous, S=single.
Try that and see if it works. If you are panning with the skiier and the distance between them and the camera isn't chaning much then maybe that will help.
I'm still majorly in learning mode and have had my 510 over a year, soon to be 2!, so I'm definitely no expert.
