Thanks again. I did a bit more research on the internet and find Pentax withdrew the slow speed sync facility from the ist L model. What a bummer.
I have otherwise had good results from the camera and have it matched with a Tamron 28-300 1:3.5-6.3 Macro lense, which is light weight and short profile and covers most situations well.
