I love the concept -- as the photog in my family I have a few of these too. I looked at your EXIF data for this shot. At f/5.6, 1/15 and 800 ISO you are shooting pretty dark and it shows a bit in the colours and contrast. Obviously the hands coming up made for a spontaneous shot, but you will generally get better results and have more flexibility in your settings if you can shoot in a bit more light.
