How I did it….. 101 for the Newbie
Set Up:
Made the room as dark as possible.
Turn one light back on to set up.
Turn my camera setting to S and set my shutter so it was open for 8 sec.
Set my focal length to 18mm.
Stood about 6 feet in front of the camera holding my maglight and had my husband set the focus.
Turned the focus to M so that it would not change.
Switched my camera to a timed release to give me time to get in position.
Turned the lights off.
The Shot:
Turned the flashlight on and held a piece of blue tissue paper doubled up over the end.
Cupped my hand over the light.
Clicked the shutter release.
Got into position.
Kept my hand covering the flashlight until it was in position.
Wrote the word “love” imagining that I was writing on a chalk board. I did not try to write backwards.
My Surprise – two toned affect:
I got a two-toned affect by changing the speed of how quick or slow I was writing. This was a surprise to me, but I love how it turned out. The faster I wrote, the whiter, the slower, the bluer. The narrowing of the tail was because I turned my flashlight slightly towards me.
Post Processing –
I cropped out the extra black.
Flipped it so that it could be read.
That is it. It is very easy to do. This was my first attempt and I was able to do it in a couple shots. I hope I did not leave any thing out.
