Funny I use mine all the time for retouching work. I guess I am just used to it. I find using a mouse to retouch a photo now to be painful. For example getting a nice smooth controlled stroke with gradually increasing brush size is not possible with a mouse but it is pretty simple with the graphics tablet.

To the OP why not go in on half with your son. That way you get a nice tablet and he doesn't spend all his money.
