I guess my answer's going to be a bit weird. I actually didn't start getting interested in photography until the past few years. My cousin (who is, due to an incredibly vast number of aunts and uncles, 35 years older than me) let me use his dSLR when he visited. What amazed me was the vast range of different pictures you could take, pointing at the same subject. To add on to that, photography heavily utilizes my favorite subject--physics. Translating a ton of optics into something that is visible to everybody was pretty appealing to me, and I also hope to take pictures of physical phenomena someday, when I have more time and a strobe light.
