Hi, I'm Annette, I live in Nottinghamshire, England [yes, Robin Hood country!]
I got my first camera for my 10th birthday and loved taking pix, but at heart I must have yearned for digital even so long before it was invented! [that was 26 years ago, when was digital invented?] For one thing I kept wanting to take pix of odd things, interesting textures etc rather than people and landmarks like my Dad [who paid for the processing] expected. For another there was how looooong to wait to see the pix [my Dad would send off a batch and it would be months before you got some of them back!]
So I was well chuffed to get my first digital 4 years ago, which I treated myself to as I was off to study in Norway for 6 months [it was sooo cool!] As I am a runologist [one who studies runic inscriptions, an alphabet used in northern Europe in the middle ages] I wanted a camera that would take a nice clear close up of scratches in rock and wood! I was very pleased with the one I got [can't remember the brand but I'll check if anyone is interested] but upgraded recently to a Panasonic Lumix 30mm wide angle, which I am also very pleased with.
I have arthritis so I can't manage a large heavy camera, my first requirement is light with easy to press buttons, my second is being able to photograph those scratches! I'm not very techie so tend to just take loads of pix and see what works, using different settings when I remember. I like to take close ups [macro I must get used to calling it] especially of leaves or ice or anything which grabs my attention. I also like to play with the Gimp, usually sticking bits of one pic into another, so have been interested in some of the great tips on these forums. I found the site through Blurb.com, the self-publishing site which I have used to make several books of phoems [my Dad's word for a poem and photo combined] which I find a lot of fun.
Well, I think this post is quite long enough now, so I'll go and carry on reading the forums and maybe even post there now I've introduced myself! I did have one question - do you have to be in flickr or similar to post a pic? I couldn't see any instructions on how to upload one from my computer?
