My two cents.

Just as someone said about. If you already have a group of people it's a lot easier. I joined MS & FB last year when I was planning my 20th High School Class Reunion. It was very beneficial. I searched by my high school name, and I quickly found people I had not heard of in a LONG LONG time. MS was originally started as a way for Musicians to be discovered. (Journey found their new Lead singer there) FB is more of the "professional" of the two if you ask me. MS is full of kids. FB has more adults. After our reunion (I had my camera in the car allllllllllll weekend and never took the 1st picture, but then again I was running around heading up the entire weekend) the pictures everyone took circulated VERY QUICKLY. So yes it can get your name out there. And your pictures. But you need to have a client base 1st. How FB works is say you & I are friends. One of your friends Friend X (not mine) post some pictures on their page. If you comment on that particular picture, I (being one of your friends) would see your comments on that picture. I would then look at that picture and say, hmmm Friend X has a keen eye for DOF, I'll add her as a friend. And soon you'll. So the next time any of Friend X's friends comment on one of her photos I'd see that comment and do the same thing.

Another way you find people of similar interests is the friend tab on the right of your page. It consistantly pops up people from my high school, of friends of my friends. Obviously if you are creating a Business FB page, I'd leave what HS you went to off the page. And concentrate of photography people.

Hope this helps.
