I used the bulb setting for the first time this past 4th of July. It worked like a dream shooting fireworks. Basically, set the shutter to bulb, use either a wired or wireless remote to trip the shutter. With bulb, you are controlling when the shutter opens, how long it stays open and when it closes. Press the shutter button to open the shutter, hold the button down until you want the shutter to close, then release the button, the shutter closes and you have an exposure. Trials are a must to see how long you need to keep the shutter open in your specific application. For fireworks, I used about 8-10 sec. I have gone all the way to 30 sec. with it before too.
