As for sandwiching critiques in praise, I don't do that, and I don't appreciate when others do it to me. This is not an HR review. I want to know how I can improve my craft, and praise helps to do nothing but inflate egos.
That's not to say I don't hand out praise when I think it's deserved, and that I don't appreciate genuine praise, but I don't go out of my way to look for good things to say. Like waffles, this is part of the reason I sorta avoid SYS. I think that if people ask for a critique, they should be ready to accept critique.
