This is just a point-and-shoot snapshot I had of my friend's family from a wedding last year. Unfortunately, my friend's wife had her eyes closed. As this is the only picture I had of their family together, I wanted to try and save it.
Using Gimp, I first brightened the image using a simple Levels adjustment. I then used the clone tool to get rid of the couple in the background plus a few background shadows. I also used the clone tool and airbrush to get rid of the distracting elements from the window behind my friend.
The last part was the hardest. I opened another picture I had of my friend's wife, cut out her eyes, and pasted them onto the picture I was trying to save. Since the orientation wasn't right, I used the perspective, rotate, and resize tools to get the eyes to what you see in the fix. I then adjusted the colours to blend them in. Each eye was worked on in a separate layer.
Once I was done, I flattened the image and, well, here it is! I showed it to the family and not one of them knew what I had done.
