Default Cheeky

I took this shot of my nephew and wished after I took it that it "popped" more than it does. He has such dark eyes that I think it takes away from the photo. I was just wondering if people think it would pop more if I lighten the eyes or if there was something I could have done better in actually taking the shot that would have fixed that? Any suggestions you have would be so helpful!

Thanks!
