from the looks of it, there seems to be a opacitized texture layer (if that makes any sense). desaturation is not exactly how i would attack this problem, but it is more of cutting and boosting selective colors - a breeze to do in lightroom, but the layers have to be done in photoshop or gimp, or corel (if you are into that).
