Churches and graveyards always seem to call for something a little on the dark side, so I played with this one a bit. After editing it reminded me of the setting of a series of books from an author I like to read (which probably influenced my edit once I got going).

So, here's what I did.
1. Duplicated the original layer and erased the sky using a quick selection, then removed the white fringe (for the most part) using Layer > Matting > Defring with 2px.
2. Put a more threatening sky behind the church layer (sans sky).
3. Used the Colour Match function on the church layer to match it to the sky a bit more and make it darker. I increased the amount of fade and checked the neutralize box.
4. To keep things as they were at this point I made a copy of everything by using Ctrl+Option+Shift+E. At this point I went back and burned the edges of the trees to get rid of the white edges using Highlights at about 15%.
5. I decided things still needed to be a bit darker and more contrasty, so I created a new B&W adjustment layer and set it to the "High Contrast Red" and "Soft Light" blending mode.
6. Added in the runes and glowing window using a new layer with it set to have an outer glow using red. I used the
Arcane Runes brushes by Obsidian Dawn and then just painted in the upper window. I also skewed the runes so that the fit the lines a little better.
7. I added another layer with a blue outer glow and added in the glowing bits between the gravestones using the
Dangling Glows by Obsidian Dawn.
8. Then I decided a bit of rain might suit the image so I made the rain using a new layer filled to black, then using Filter > Render > Clouds, then adding noise (60%) and then using motion blur and setting the whole thing to screen at about 35% opacity.
Phew, I'm pretty sure that's about it!
