Hmm,
well a dark background is the first thing you should have.
I believe I changed my ISO to 200 and turned my flash on.
Then I obviously burned three incense, which is a great source of smoke,
(and it smells amazing!).
To get the swirls I would either wave my hand across the smoke,
or blow into it.
Then just as it was trying to settle back to normal, I snapped a shot.
For the bottom right I used a macro lense,
but for the top left I just used the plain camera.

It's really a trial and error process.
Good luck!

Oh, and I also adjusted the contrast on a photo-editing software to
really make the smoke pop.
