Default Black and White - too late?

This is my first DPS posting. I hoping for some comments on my B&W photos. My monitor needs to be calibrated so the photos might be too dark. What do you think? (Thanks for letting me know that the assignments never end Nicole).

Data: Nikon D70, Nikkor ED 70-300, 1/160, f/4.2, manual mode, raw format,
