Default peeper paper project

so, i got pretty pumped about my paper shots last weekend.....although, after another viewing a few days later, i found a lot of room for improvement...my focus was soft, my exposure extreme, and my imagination lacking....

i searched a few paper images for inspiration and i decided to settle on curls...

and another....

i decided to use my dyi light tent for these so that i could add more light with shadows that were soft enough not to have hard edges but still strong enough to model the paper....after more than a few shots of white on white, i branched out to colored papers for the backgrounds.....this made a big improvement to my eye because the color seemed to "drift" through the white curls.....

post work was minimal...yeah me!....a slight adjustment to all images with levels...a smidgen of surface blur to avoid the inevitable noise that comes from sharpening images that are not contrasted enough to work with....

what i learned.....

my finger does not make a suitable curling iron....it left so many creases that i ended up throwing out that set of paper and cutting some more....these i curled around a sharpie and i was much happier

never ever eat a buttered biscuit while working with either paper or a camera as it left the obvious greasy spots on the paper and there were more than a few spooge marks on my lens that transfered from image to image to image.....cleaning my lens is how i'm gonna spend a few minutes this evening...

anyway, i had fun....
