Canon EOS 40D and Nikon D3 DSLR Rumors

Canon-Eos-40D-2I don’t generally announce new cameras here at the blog – but today there have been strong rumors and leaks going around of two new DSLRs – one a Canon and one a Nikon.

  • Canon EOS 40D – 10.1 megapixels, 3.0 inch LCD, 6.5 frames per second shooting, sRAW and lots more – See it at Amazon
  • Nikon D3 – details are more sketchy on this one but it’s reportedly got 51 autofocus points, 9 frames per second shooting and a 3.0 inch LCD.

Update: Not only did they publish details of the Canon EOS 40D – but Amazon have also published details of the higher end Canon EOS 1DS Mark III – a 21.1 megapixel DSLR – available in December 2007. Canon must be pretty upset about Amazon letting these details slip in advance of their own announcements. See it at Amazon

Update 2: Well the above two Canon DSLRs are now official. The information was correct.

Canon also announced a few other point and shoot cameras today. As I know many of you are Canon fans I’ll post some links (all are available on Amazon already for Pre-Order):

Looks like Amazon pulled it. Now the link just says, “Looking for something?
We’re sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.”
Guess Canon nipped that one in the bud fast!

Hehe, you and everyone else has blogged those 40D details. I won’t be tempted as the features offered simple aren’t enough to upgrade from a 20D.

Looks like the same details from both Amazon and Best Buy too.

I am new to DPS and I am learning a lot from reading all of your articles. You simplify everything for a beginner and are an excellent teacher. I have one comment. There is no date on your articles and you will refer to “today” and “last month” or “last year” which has no meaning for me, a new member.
There may be a date somewhere but I cannot find one.
    Keep up the good work.

my sense of humor and my ” eyesight ” have left me…and will not return till one huge question is answered. Here is the problem. Anybody out there who can help me?

I own a Canon 20D, Adobe CS2, Lightroom 1.4 and all worked like a charm till I purchased a Canon Rebel XSi. After several weeks of downloading pics from the XSi onto the computer, CS2 will not open any raw files unless they are all converted to a DNG file OR till I upgrade to CS4 which I don’t need. This is beyond frustrating!

I had my computer guru come and try to figure this out. To the best of his knowledge, all files have to be sent to DNG for conversion, Adobe does not offer a patch to allow any other raw files to be opened in photoshop. When I convert photos to DNG, all orginal data is no longer shown with photogpraph, and to top it all off, I am not able to add any key or additional notes to a photograph. I get a warning that all data will be lost.

When I download into My Pictures, there is no way I can even pull up a photograph to see what it is and if I want to convert it. unless I shot pics in JPEG and Raw and this takes up unnecessary memory on the desktop

All of this takes a lot of time and joy away from photography. I use to have a camera inmy hand all the time and now I don’t touch it
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong or how to resolve the problem

    Thanks,
    Jayne

I recently Bought 500D. Photography is not my profession just a hobby. I use my camera when i am on a vacation. Someone suggested me that 500 D is not a good camera. I should have boought 5d Mark two atleast. I was about to buy it but when i saw price tag i thought i should see whether its for me or for professionals. I dont print but i might once in a while.. I will be buying few lenses like a wide angle and telephoto. wide is my first choice. since I felt handicapped when i visited mountain area and was not able to widen my view. Just waiting to see if i dont buy another camera i go for lens. so please help e take decision.
