5 Examples of Beautiful Simple Portraits

Today I came across some of the work of Russian photographer Alexander Vinogradov on his 500px portfolio.

His account is largely portraits of women – shot in a variety of locations. However his most recent portrait really grabbed my attention.

This shot was so simple on numerous levels. A very simple dark background, simple lighting, relatively tightly framed, subject looking straight down the camera.

It’s a simple yet effective formula.

As I looked through the rest of Alexander’s work I saw the formula repeated with good effect. While many of his portraits are shot in other locations – he seems to return with many of his subjects to this same or similar locations.
